No, I haven’t worked that out! Still getting them.

If you go to watch/unwatch menu item top right if you unfollow, when you refollow the page you can until the email updates.

 

I don’t seem to be watching any threads? I’ve gone through all the alert settings on my profile, and unticked them but I got an email alert for your last reply.

 

Pull up the drawbridge quick, don't let the rest in

 

Check top right of this page and see if it prompting you to watch or unwatch this thread. If you are watching, click on 'unwatch', then if you do want to watch this thread click on 'watch' again and in the pop up box that appears click on 'no email alerts' or whatever it says.

 

That wasn't my intention when starting this thread, maybe I worded it poorly? I foresaw there being hundreds of new member posts being started and thought a central thread for GW'ers to post in may be tidier, and we can easily find out who's come across from the dark side etc.

 

Think you have to go into preference, click on your name top right of the screen then onto preference and untick email alerts

 

Thanks for the information, both of you. I found a ‘manage your watched threads’ box, and have unticked the email alerts. Hopefully, that will now work. My email box was getting rather full!

That is nice to know that you're looking to "like" posts. It is a forum pleasantry to acknowledge that you read someone's post. If you're not sure you like their post but want to acknowledge, there are other "ratings". Some use the heart shape- friendly, for actually reading about something friendly or just to try to acknowledge without giving the impression that you approve of the contents.

I think it is polite to "rate" posts. To me it is just like nodding when someone is speaking. Those who never give ratings, sometimes come across as rude, to me.

It's kinda like learning which fork to use at table. Fun little mannerisms. And all to try to be civil and transparent.

And I really like that so many have added their general location to their profile. It really helps when trying to offer advice or understand the difference between their and your growing conditions.

My zone 5 is according to the U.S. zone map which is in sync with the zoning standards in the UK. I have no idea why the Canuck government decided to do things differently- it's not like the plants care!

Oh and you can always change your "mood".... now @JWK who do you think you're fooling?

Hi all, it looks like I’ve managed to stop the email alerts, after at least four attempts! Thanks for the help, I needed it!
@CanadianLori, thanks for the kind words. The like button is very useful, ( once I worked out which one it was!) I must explore the others, too. I’ll find it helpful to have some way of acknowledging a post other than ‘like’. If someone has posted something sad, or had a bad day, I might want to just let them know I’d read it, and ‘like’ didn’t really seem appropriate.
I’m looking forward to feeling at home on this forum. After the near despair I felt yesterday over at GW, I’m feeling quite cheerful now!
I think I might add UK to my profile, as there seem to be more international members on here.

 

My username changed because I accidentally used one that I use somewhere else instead of the one that I used on GW - I'm JennyJ over there. Similar enough! I hope it doesn't cause any confusion.
