I would guess closure had been in the pipeline for a while. Politics may have been the final straw, but I don't think we can assume it was the cause.

 

Probably. But the political opinions expressed possibly brought the forum to the attention of the owner who has an extremely wide ranging variety of media interests and probably wouldn't have noticed its existence otherwise

 

I suspect that they were told to ensure that nothing said on the forum could expose Immediate Media to bad publicity or legal action. The staff just didn’t have the time to monitor the forum that closely and still do everything else their jobs involved. Something had to go .., it was us.

 

Maybe! Still, what's done is done. Onwards ...

If that was the reason maybe all the left-leaning GW members who were discussing those topics should create their own forum where they can discuss endlessly their stuff rather than misusing a forum about gardening. This was btw the reason why I didn’t visit the GW forum in the recent months.
Sorry but I didn’t move to a new forum to read again these conspiracy theories by lefties.
We have flocked in hundreds to Gardeners Corner and please respect what they want.

I can' wait to see your pictures, @Sheps. Glad you made it in 2017 already :-)

You know when ever I'm in the garden doing the sowing, I think "if sheps would see me", but I have an excuse, it rains all the time this winter... I'm desperately waiting to get the greenhouse cleaned.

 

If the forums works out to be what I hope for, I will definitely donate what I used to pay for the GW subscription in November when the renewal would be due.
