Only been watching gardeners world since the start of this year.. but funnily enough, I am not a fan of Mr Swift either. I ended up watching all of the Chelsea flower show, didn't like him on that and borrowed a few books from the library a few weeks ago, one being Joe's Allotment. Terrible book. Considering he's a designer and it says on the front of the book planning and planting a productive allotment he didn't cover what should be planted where, what shouldn't be planted together and no layouts for you to take examples from.

So they extend GW, but cancel Beechgrove for most of the summer.

Monty told us all last week that from this Friday the programme was being extended to an hour. What I can't understand is why wait until nearly the end of the year to have one hour slots when I would have preferred them in the spring as we were chomping at the bit to get started.I have been saying for years it should be an hour programme, but would they listen...No:rasp:

A few years ago we went down to Devon to visit a relative and we all went off to visit Carol Kleins place but we had trouble finding it.When we asked at the local information centre we was told that it was closed due to it being Easter and it wouldn't have been worth our while anyway as her garden was quiet neglected due to her never being there due to her always being away filming. It seems she has actually done work to her garden or had a team in to do a make over as we have seen her programmes from her garden and it does look much improved:snorky:

Lets face it these garden celebrities can't keep trekking off to other parts of the country or abroad filming for weeks or possibly months and come home to a pristine garden. We only go away for weeks and when we get back the garden is overgrown in that short time:snorky:

The only true gardeners that I ever liked was Geoff Hamilton,Geoffrey Smith,Rachel de Tame and the great Chris Beardshaw:wub2:

I was young once, must be 10yrs ago or so.
Gardening, or growing plants has never been boring to me from the age of around 7.
You are either interested or you aint, if you aint dont bother;)

So why the hell someone was planting up what were basically spring bedding plants to put into containers in a tiny front garden is beyond me.
Failure is the best way to put someone off growing things.
And planting up frost tender plants is asking for trouble at this end of the year.

Also they didn't point out you will need to water occasionally when dry.

Just turned 27 same age as Alice (telegraph) ..I quite enjoyed it, its nice seeing a humongous garden I might never have. But I would like to see smaller, more "normal" gardens with fruit and veg in small spaces not just Monty saying it can work.. and it doesn't really appeal to novices like she said.

I was wondering why that woman in Liverpool was planting up geraniums.. suppose it was filmed awhile back.

The new girl, I like. Adam Frost, the Danny Dyer of gardening, I don't like..he did try though, bless him. Carol I love (read her garden was a mess, had a dispute with neighbour?) Less dogs too :blue thumb:

Got the big  from me. Any programme that does tropical plants is a winner for me.

Only neg for me is the continued focus on "celeb" garden designers and their "amazing" ideas/projects etc etc .
