The second programme was much more in the style that the core audience is used to and I suspect will be greeted with more general approval. Which goes to show - that you mess with the format of long-established short programmes at your peril - or put another way - 'if it ain't broke don't try to fix it'.

I want to see if Monty can make it through an episode without mentioning the words "box hedging".

Now, now, Eddie!! You don't want to be accused of being negative, now do you??:heehee: [hr]
Just after saying i'd missed the second program I was flicking through Sky and the first program was on followed by the 2nd.

I've got to say that the 2nd program was better than the first - but it was only 30 minutes long instead of the 60 minutes it deserved.

    But it was better:thumbsup:

OI!! Being a "short sighted negative self styled expert" I am qualified to say just what I want!!:WINK1:

Don't worry, Monty more than makes up for his lack of imagination in garden design and obsession for box hedging, by showing genuine passion and enthusiasm for his job.:)

As said by others, only giving the programme a half hour time slot is pretty naff though. An hour a week wouldn't be difficult to fill with 15 minute slots covering the differing aspects of gardens, garden maintenance, garden design and construction, seasonal planting and plantscapes, along with veg growing.

Ok, Im not being negative (heaven Forbid!!!! :WINK1: ) But doesnt Monty's garden look like its 90% Hedging... He's got a box hedge, along a hedge, which has then got a tree hedge alongside that, with more hedging beside that...

Think he was hedging his bets, in case one died back?

Hee hee! I do think he has a thing about hedging! Especially as he mentioned the hedges at Little Thatch too. Lucky devil doesn't have anyone cutting them down when he's not looking either!

But he's so lovely. I love the way it is just him pottering about. I'm learning something every episode.

Does anyone know the plant shown in front of the 'Old Thatch' sign of this weeks episode, at 21:15? Saw it in a garden in Brighton a few years ago and Bees like it, been trying to find out which plant it is for aeons.

Well, if anyone else is looking, its 14m56s into the iPlayer video. Only things I can see are out of focus, or winter dead stems of herbaceous ... or I've got the wrong bit of the clip ...

I think it's the second time it's shown, at the end of the little thatch feature, 21:15. Purple flowers on long stems. Looks almost salvia like in spikeyness!
