OK, done that. No idea what the plant is though :(

 

Am I going mad. Was it little thatch, or old thatch. Why do I keep saying little thatch?

 

Much better programme last night , the dahlia guy was good I wish Jo would of let him talk rather than Jo is the so called gardening expert !!! butting in all the time.

You don't think that was deliberate? Jo gave the normal accepted wisdom and the other guy said what his method was.

It's certainly predictable. Three episodes, and three references in relation to box hedging.

 

I watched it yesterday, and couldn't help but being a bit disillusioned with it.

I enjoy the information, but Monty was talking about planting seeds and so on. And how when he's hardening things off, they go from the warm bit of the greenhouse to the cool bit, then to a cold frame, then to another sheltered bit and then finally out into the main garden.

I'm sure that's lovely and ideal - but i'm equally sure lots of people don't have the space for that!

 

It`s a pity we can`t have Geoff and Clay back. Even Titchmarsh was better then recent presenters.

 

I've been watching repeats of Monty at Berryfields on the Blighty Channel and I must say he was much better on those programmes than he is on the present ones in his own garden.

The present series seems to be lacking any warmth and interaction between the presenters. Normally I enjoy any gardening programme, but Monty in his garden leaves me cold and bored.

 

Caught the end of Gardeners' World, which confirmed for me that I don't like Monty Don. I won't be watching it. Aren't there any other good, practical gardening programmes now?

 

I think there's a north/south divide as far as the presenters, past and present, on GW go. The northeners always come across as rough and ready and the southeners as a bit posh.

Monty Don - He's charismatic, talks sense and has a passion for his garden. He may be a bit "posh" but, in my humble opinion, he makes the other presenters pale into insignificance. I love his gardening articles and books which are well written and food for the soul (that could be a woman thing:WINK1 A true professional.

Toby Buckland - zero charisma

Joe Swift - style over substance

Alan Titchmarsh - has a sunny disposition, is knowledgable on gardening, good at drawing, writing books and he makes a great chat show host. He's a TV natural. and all round good guy. It would be tragic if he fell off his pedestal.


Carol Klein - enthusiastic but I read she was bitter about not getting the top job. Proof that the BBC is ageist

Rachel de Thame - Another one with zero charisma - There for the guys because she's easy on the eye although she's getting on a bit now.

What could be done to improve the programme. Reflect the diversity of our country by having presenters who are not all white, middle aged and middle class.

 

Of course - Christine is a true natural. She has no pretensions and is a real friend of the earth.
