That was about the same as one I was going to use a couple of years ago when I dropped some pines, firs, etc. I ended up returning it and using a bigger one.

Nowadays, its possible to get an attachment for angle grinders that will do the same job. Takes longer though.

Hedge.jpg I've always fancied a tree in my front garden. Once apon a time I contemplated putting something here. In actually though that would seriously reduce car manouvring space. Just recently I wondered whether it would be possible to tuck some kind of tree into the corner so that it mingles into the hedge on one side and not stick out too far on the other. Is this possible or plausible. I was thinking a small fruit tree. Something like was previously discussed for the back garden. It would be nice to get some seasonal colour out there. I have to say at this point, I have no idea what is under the gravel. It might not be possible to dig it out.

If it's a matter of brightening up the corner you could pick a shrub such as Choisya ternarta Sundance or a tree such as Saphora Microphylla Sun King

Sundance is a shrub, has gold leaves all year round and white flowers in Spring and occasionally flowers again late Autumn.

Sun King is a tree, has dark green leaves all year round and flowers in late winter. The leaves are interesting and the flowers exotic. It does take a while to grow tall.

They are both in this picture

And a close-up of the flowers of Sun King

If you own the greensward Jack would it be possible to plant a tree there to keep your garden free for your car. If it's council owned perhaps it's worth enquiring to see if they would allow it.

Today I saw a summer sweetheart rose and a sweet syrie rose reduced from £25 to £12.75. Both of these climbing roses read very well. Everywhere else I looked roses were? £16.99. I never know what's a bargain and what isn't.

@Sheal I've asked about planting on the other side of the hedge. The lady I asked said she would look into it. The neighbour on the left has peonies in there's and the right have roses.

Let us know how you get on with that please @Jack Sparrow.

You can buy roses bare-root online for around £10 at this time of year. I've used both Style Roses and Cant's of Colchester, both are good quality and parcelled well for delivery. :)

Bougainvillea is lovely but its not hardy. I would have no where to store it overwinter. That would also defeat the object as I'm looking for multi seasonal colour.

My original question was Would planting a tree close to the hedge damage the tree and or the hedge?

                              Any thoughts?
