Today was spent doing some final planning and sanding on the five tapered legs and knuckle hinge.
Had bit of a problem when the base fell off the obital sander but some contact adhesive and a bit of luck all is now operational.

Legs now ready for jointing to the rails.

wow Robert, I showed hub this thread as he's a joiner/builder, and he thinks its mint :) actually he knows all the joints and terms of carpentry and he has all the tools but has to work quickly in his job but tihinks what your doing is brilliant, maybe one day when he has time he can make something as beautifull as your table..Dee..

    Morning YDD.
Thanks for comments and please thank OH for comments as well.
It must in some ways be fustrating for a craftsman not been able to practise his skills because of time / contract constraints.
I wish him well when he finally gets around to making that table..:gnthb:

Thanks woo. you are very generous.
Today was spent preparing joints and assembling one short rail end.
First picture shows me drilling the dowel holes.

Now checking for alignment before glueing. Once glued theres no turning back !

Now glued and ready for cramping
    [IMG]
All checked for true and set aside until another day. I can only do one side at a time as I only have one cramp of that type!

I've only just seen this Robert, I think your making an excellent job there.
    Its all coming along nicely.

Please dont stain it, Ash is a fantastic timber.
    Peruvian Mahogany? Oh no.:dh:

Leave it natural, its much nicer.

If you want mahogany you should have used a more mahogany like timber.

But your doing a grand job.:gnthb:

Appreciate the comments Pete, but the fact is this table will take its place in the same room as the other two I have made and the finish needs to be the same. I shall have to post a picture of one of my previous so the good folk of GC can see how good it looks:gnthb::gnthb:

Yes Pete, that is in Ash as well.
The legs are actually cut down stair spindles !
I do not have a lathe for turning.
The end result is not quite a match but we love it!

A bit of progress this afternoon.

You cant beat a bit of hand sanding to get a good workout!

End rails and legs are now cramped and setting
    [IMG]

The fifth leg is now jointed to the hinged rail

Today it now looks like a table.
I have assembled the framework and added the fifth hinged leg.

    Back to the workshop today.
Time to joint up the top and the drop leaf.
I use biscuits to joint the pieces together. For them to fit I used my router table to cut slots in the edges.
First picture shows the router bit going at about 30,000 RPM as it cuts the slots. One wrong move here and its all over.

This is what I am looking for. I nice slot and a snug fitting biscuit
    [IMG]

After dry fitting all boards it is time for the big glue and clamp up
    [IMG]

The drop leaf is now clamped up and will be left until tomorrow to set firm.
The leaf is made from three boards and you may notice there is nearly an exact match on two of the boards showing a dark grain.
I think they will finish rather well and be a nice feature.
