I have about 6 female buds which look a little more swollen than last week but definitely not that rate of growth. If I have more than one per plant, do I remove the extra?

Yvonne Donnellon, don't remove any buds until you are sure the females have been pollinated. I aim for two pumpkins per plant just in case one fails. For the biggest pumpkin leave just one fruit per plant :blue thumb:

Thanks Jwk, I'm not so worried about growing some mammoth beast, just the pure joy of growing something from seed, nurturing it and then eating it is enough for me !

Here's a pic of one of my Hundredweight females:

Just need some males now - the plants are spreading out all over the garden! Don't want to prune too much until i've got some pollination

        :)

A week to 10 days, the embryonic fruit will start swelling.

yeah they smell lovely. I didn't realise they had a smell till this morning, when I stole 2 of my dads male flowers which also opened this morning.

From what I have seen in the next three days or so they will either grow or start to shrivel

The one that didn't get pollinated on mine started going wrinkly and soft after just 3/4 days and the one that was pollinated started increasing in size almost immediately :)

Shame the flowers only open for a few hours. They are really nice.
