It's a good idea to nip out the growing tip once fruit have set and the rest of the plant is a good size. I think that will make the plant put it's energy into bulking up the fruit rather than growing new leaves.

What do you do? Just nip it off and that's it? Do you leave the seconday vines alone?

I've nipped off all of the growing tips on mine, there are a few tiny secondary vines starting to grow which i'll leave.

I don't want the plants to get any bigger but on the other hand i don't want them to not have the chance of growing another vine should one die.

Mine are doing pretty well i will get some pictures up later

Yes just nip off the end. It will make the plant try and produce more secondary vines, I've been nipping those off too, mainly because there is no more growing space - they are already in a big tangle.

I have got got loads of secondly already fro what I have read you train them like a Christmas tree shape so let your first secondary on each side and let them grow to about 15 foot then go smaller for each set till nothing

It looks as if they slow right down when they get to a certain size, but im shure they are still growing at the same rate. just coz they are bigger it is harder to tell.

just a quick question. do the plants ever stop producing flowers? or do the flowers keep coming until the end?

Yes they will stop flowering soon, provided the pumpkin is growing strongly.

When will it be too late to carry on pollinating flowers? my thought is that the season is starting to change now, and I don't want to be pollinating flowers if there isn't enough time for the pumpkin to grow to maturity.
