I know I'm not in the competition but when I visited my neglected allotment yesterday, I found a fully ripened 2.4kg pumpkin! I thought the slugs had destroyed all my plants, obviously not.

Neglected Allotment? Afraid so, my heart hasn't been in it, the loss of my sister and eldest dog have taken their toll, the slugs virtually made me give up!

I'm all geared up for next year though, I hope!

sorry about the bad news vince. I haven't really been checking this thread recently and have not been getting any alerts for it, so thought all had gone quiet in here. ill have to post some pictures of what ive got so far. strange things are pumpkins aren't they? the first pollinated you would think would grow to be biggest due to longer time growing, but my most recently pollinated have outgrown the first ones by a lot.

im going to try my hand at a lot more than just pumpkins next year got 3, 4ft by 4ft veg patches dug out of the lawn with the thoughts in the back of my head "should I dig another"

Tried the OTT weighing method today. Am I supposed to be measuring in centimetres or inches? Do I measure down to the ground or just where the widest points are on the pumpkin? This is driving me mad :gaah:

In centimetres not touching the ground: 139x60x61

In centimetres touching the ground: 139x89x88

The three measurements you need are:
        1. Circumference – Measure the circumference of the fruit parallel to the ground at stem height.
        2. End to end – Place your tape measure on the ground at the stem end, and at the blossom end. Measure the distance from ground to ground.
        3. Perpendicular – Placing the tape perpendicular to the plant stem at the widest point of the pumpkin. Place it on the ground on both sides, and measure this distance.

Then put the figures in a calculator such as posted by Richard360

NB after clicking on above link you also need to select 'Misc tools and more' and make sure you click outside the last entry box to get that measurement included.

Been away for a few days and come back to find my poor little fellow looking real forlorn......he'd even detached himself from the rotting mass that was once his mother......the plant was healthy enough 5 days ago and yet has virtually disappeared :dunno:
I've never been good a growing pumpkins but this is the worst yet:doh:
There is another one that has appeared from the other plant...only ping pong ball sized though....
So here is my 'Sumo' ....all just over 3 1/2 lb of him:biggrin:
