Oh dear, my largest pumpkin has contracted bottom rot and is also suffering from a prolapse

        pump1.jpg

My contender for smallest pumpkin is also a gonner

        pump3.jpg

Only these 2 left, so I probably wont even have one for carving (as Mrs Scrungee wants them to make Pumpkin Lasagne).

No idea as I always get my pumpkins off the ground onto a pallet ASAP (a case of overkill with this one!), but I've never had one with a 'prolapse' before (pic#1) and I was going to look inside it but Mrs Scrungee has already snaffled it for cooking/hen food/compost.

I've harvested all my Pumpkins today, the foliage is dieing off and some light frosts have been predicted.

Anyway, I've weighed the biggest and its 5st 2lb so 72lb...photos to follow tomorrow.

              Steve...:)

Well here's a "collective" shot of all my squashes this year.

The big yellow one is 72lb, the one next is a little smaller, probably around 60-65lb, and a few smaller AG kins just to the front and right, with a few courgettes and the last of our summer squashes (small flattened yellow things). On the left are our Butternut Squash's (Waltham), best one stood in front went 6lb 4oz, biggest I have ever grown of them. Behind me you can see around half of my Jack o lantern pumpkins.

All will now reside in my greenhouse to ripen up before eating, storing or carving...

                Steve...:)

Blimey Steve, those Butternuts are big! I'd always assumed that the ones that one sees in the supermarket were par for the course. Generally speaking, what would you say is the average weight one might expect? And, how many fruits per plant?

Is your greenhouse mouse-proof? I have to keep squashes in my shed.

Whole garden and surrounds are relatively mouse proof...we have three cats!

Freddy, I don't really know as I have only grown them for a few years. They do need a long season and their vines are long and I have had upto 4 or 5 fruits per vine. 2 to 3lb would be my guess, but it is only a guess based on my previous experience.

I'm sure someone else will come along and fill you in with that info Freddy.

                  Steve...:)
