That's correct - but not sure if it applies to Kiwis. If you want to retire to NZ the older you are the more money you have to have. Hundreds of thousands!!

That's because the Tories have closed them all @Shiney:snork:

This lady was saying that she was told you have to have so many millions to live in NZ and this lady told us that she has ME,Lupus, and a few other ailments so I don't reckon they will welcome her and her mobility scooter back to NZ anytime soon and she is only 60:yikes:

I would love to go and live in a warm country with no humidity if it meant my bones and joints were no longer painful, but I will have to settle for the Isle of White or Poldark country:snork:

And I hope and pray that if the Tories do get in they don't privatise the NHS as had been rumoured

The costs also vary in New Zealand, Auckland is for silly money, there are quiet place that are cheap. Dunedin when hubby is from is reasonable. They pay a lot for energy even though they have hydro electricity. Food is dear especially lamb I was telling my sister in law I had a nice big leg of NZ lamb from our Tesco £12 she was saying they cannot but lamb its all exported. They buy Hogget a year old lamb if I remember right but it was about £45 just for one leg as they imported that and everything else to Japan. They take the whole carcass and as a result there was mass redundancies for butchers that work in the meat plant.
Wine is expensive, and they object to vinegar on your chips but quite happily put tomato sauce on them. They tend to have definite seasons and winter is very cold. In summer you can lie on a beach in the morning and in the afternoon go up the mountains and ski.

They do weird things like put prams on hooks outside the bus front above headlights, the driver gets out to do that and the parent just walks on the bus.
The school children have mini lolly pop stop signs and cross the kids over roads instead of older people. If cash machine is broke it will say I am sorry I am crook today. Earthquakes are very common but new buildings are built to withstand they tend to be wood frame and the emergency services and supplies are well trained and in place. I love here you can get everywhere and I am really lucky I have travelled well.
The sea is a fantastic colour by Dunedin green / blue but it is so cold as it is artic water. They have hilarious TV advertisements and don't have adds to the end of a program. Coronation street is 6 months behind in NZ.

I would install solar panels, to make energy cheaper if I lived abroad.

You have to buy health insurance in NZ this may be costly for me as I have MS and 2 other conditions but if they bring it out here for NHS I am likely to get no insurance most insurance companies won't insure me for a holiday never mind normal healthcare then why should I have to pay more I have paid into the system for 36 years and I have to pay for my prescriptions. None of my family live long so they don't get value as they get old. I would like to go for a few months NZ but come home to UK as my family are here

The same should apply for all taxes. I don't think it's unfair to those who have children to expect them to pay more towards their education, healthcare, etc until they leave school. Those who don't have children shouldn't be expected to subsidise those who have. I wrote to my local MP (Hazel Blears) about this a number of years ago when Labour were in government. She responded with some claptrap about us all being responsible for our wider community, blah blah blah. My response to her was to write "bollards" (not quite the word but you get the jist) in permanent marker across her letter and then pop it through her letterbox as she lives in my street :snork:

On a lighter note, my Liberal Democrat candidate wants me to vote for him as he's standing for the local council elections. I might if he would use the correct grammar, ie "councillor" not "counsellor" and "utmost" not "upmost" :heehee:

I have been to the polling station and "done the deed". I will be watching the telly on and off during the night to see what's happening. I am usually awake by 3 am in any case, but I suspect I will just be napping tonight to keep up with events.

Well this is my last comment on immigration (at least in this thread :heehee:) For me the objection is not about colour but about language and culture. I think if you choose to live in another Country then the very least you can do is learn their language, also not to expect any concessions regarding the way you dress or the way you wish to worship, in other words I expect/want immigrants to this Country to FIT IN!!!! If they can do this then that would be great, I would even put up with a bit of overcrowding. I don't think this is too much to ask.
I'll get my coat, another ban is likely on it's way!! :th scifD36:

I think fitting in should be expected and respect for our culture if we want to celebrate our religious holidays we should not be considered as racist but when others celebrate its festivals we get it everywhere in schools, on telly whether we agree or not. Here in England St George is a swear word to others but its ok for St Patrick, St David and St Andrew double standards.

I am awful at languages but on holiday I do get a phrase book and try my best at the very least have the polite phrases ready. It is always appreciated. Turkey was quite a tolerant place, never made us wear dress they think is appropriate and drinking is allowed although I rarely drink. My kids are great at languages Laura speaks French, Spanish, German and a bit of most languages she is learning mandarin. Adam is doing Spanish and is very happy to speak to Spanish kids when we where in Austria at Christmas. He did have a problem with French because the teacher was a bully and he freaked out and point blank refused but he has Asperger's and is very bright apparently he was not expected to do languages and he is in the top set.
Colour is not an issue for me either I don't give a monkeys but I wish they stopped messing what is the politically correct way of describing colour and then being called racist if you use an old one.

The government will argue we need to encourage births good education because they will be the carers and providers in the future but what they don't understand is they will take everything thrown and the very best educated will emigrate to the countries that have best standards and leave us with the bill and no giving back their skills or the money used to get them there.

I do get where you are coming from no children why pay I was like you until I had my own child having saved and worked hard. I was 38 when I had Laura and carried on working so never got anything other than family allowance and that comes in handy because they grow so fast. My mum looked after them 4 mornings a week and I paid for a nice holiday for her and my dad a cruise round the med for 3 years running so I did not take advantage of them Dad died so I am glad they did do that they loved it. I only retired 18 months ago because I was forced too and they will not allow me to practice my career because the neurologist and psychologist, and heart specialist said I would not be fit again I was devastated because I loved my job and miss my salary. My pension stops me claiming most things on paper I get contribution ESA but it is only a few pounds because they deduct the pension for it and I have to pay for my carer's myself if I did not have a pension I would get that free yet I employ two girls and I feel society makes me feel like a scrounger because I am ill. I worked since 16years old and even had a job as a teenager in a café.

I think some of our families from overseas can have so many kids they will bred us out, starve us of resources. There was one on face book getting loads of benefits and wanting a big house for the 17 of them. I would give them a tent and if they don't like it they can go back to Romania I would only give them food tokens too lol I am mean :)
and our votes and laws will be made by those communities in the future.

I better not say anymore I will be band

I would vote for someone even as a protest for somebody than no vote then when it goes pear shaped you have the knowledge you tried to change things and show you are not happy with main choices but your choice

I done a protest vote before, and that was BNP
The choice's that we have are't any good, which ever one i vote for will not help Miss Jiff and me in any way, so not voting, if only one was any good then i would vote

arr that is a shame. You must feel let down by the lot. I know non are perfect but our local MP is good at sorting things out but the leader of his party I see no reason why we would choose him he has no charisma. but the best of a bad bunch.

Went and voted, what a miserable looking lot at the polling station :dunno: it was held in the local pavilion for the bowling club and there are "No Dogs" signs up, but as for this day it is being used as a polling station I took my little Bichon in with me anyway. I joked with the lady who gave me my form that my dog had come to put his paw mark in the box..........................silence!!!

Does anyone know why you dont have to show ID when you vote or your polling card?

They talk about the fraud that can happen with postal votes but since you dont have to bring your polling card to vote and you never show photo I.D surely that is open to fraud
