Update...

I had a brainwave I had this piece of glass knocking around. I placed it on top of the box, and underneath the lights. It seems to have worked out a treat, no radical temperature swings. The glass isn’t the right size, but will suffice for now.

 

Ive been following this thread with interest, its something i would like to do in the near future,

This SMSCOM SMS MK2 Smart Single Fan Controller Speed & Temp Regulator 6.5A | eBay might be a solution Freddy it all else fails.

 

I do have a fan that I’ve been using to keep temps down, but since placing glass on the top, temps have been much more stable and so far not needed the fan, especially with this cold weather. I will though keep that in mind

 

It was only a option Freddy if what your doing works all is good ,

As mentioned its something i would like to get into in the coming years, unfortunately i always wont have time to be opening and closing doors this would be a ideal solution for my needs as and when i decide to set it up.

 

Just to clarify, I no longer have to mess around opening and closing the front panel. Might be different if ambient temps were higher.

 

Yes i would imagine how things are at the moment its keeping quite constant, as soon as the weather changes, temps will be up and down like a Who*e s knickers i would imagine.

I would need something to regulate it i have other hobbies and interest, so for me to set something up it would have to be easy maintenance .

 

I would think that it depends on what you want to propagate? I have a propagator in the greenhouse, which is fine for things that don’t need starting this early.

 

I don't really know at the moment Freddy, i like a challenge , what looks nice but hard to grow any suggestions welcome .

 

I try to keep away from hard to grow things, cos.... they’re hard to grow The whole idea of this has been to try to create a controlled environment. I’m no expert, but my view is that heat is easy (notwithstanding the problems I’ve had), it’s light that’s the big issue, especially at this time of year. I checked the light levels in the greenhouse recently, and whilst I can’t remember right now what they were, they were way down on what I’m getting in this light/heat box.

 

Thank you Freddy, out of interest what light cycle have you implemented and what are you growing in there please.

 

I currently have Chillis in there, both seed and plants, not many though. As time goes on, there will of course be a lot more occupants. At the moment, I’m lighting 12 hours a day. I do have a timer I can use, so I’ll probably put that to use.

 

Thanks again Freddy i will keep looking in and reading elsewhere and maybe set something up for next year.

 

Using the excellent Inkbird may be the answer to fluctuating temps etc. Not in this case as your sorted already but for anyone else looking in on this excellent thread.

 

Just an update...
The Chilli plants are doing quite well. Admittedly the 6 on the right were bought as plugs, but are growing at quite a rate, compared with my usual experience.

Earlier in the thread, I mentioned that I needed to replace one of the lamps (CFL), which I did. Just noticed today that this lamp has now blown. Could it be the fitting?
