Germinating Seeds Quickly

@shiney I've just seen this and have one of same seed sprouters as you so intend trying it for germinating some of my seeds. What should I do if the germinated seeds get their roots stuck on/in the kitchen paper? Is it ok to pot them with a bit of the paper attached if this happens?

Also does using the sprouter work for small seeds or is it best used for larger seeds? I imagine using it for small seeds is fiddly. Have you tried small seeds in it?

I love my seed sprouter, both for germination and beansprouts. I'm always amazed at how quick it is.

 

Paper doesn't take long to rot down, and if it is wet / moist roots will grow through it easily - like they do in the germinator - so don't worry about that. However, make sure that no paper is above the soil - otherwise it will act as a wick and dry out the paper below the soil too, which the seedling won't like! Also applies if making "pots" from rolling newspaper around an aerosol can, or similar.; when planting out tear off any newspaper sticking out of the soil, or cover it with soil, otherwise it will dry out the paper underground and then the roots won't grow through it.
