I am relatively new to this forum; although I registered in October 2005 via a friend already registered, it is only recently that I have looked in regularly... I see no problem at all with the layout, content or focus of the site .... each Section is clearly headed ...I always start at Gardeners Corner then scroll down to other general chat ....I also look at my last posts, via my profile, as a guide to where I have been and can then see what, if any, follow up there has been. The topic headings are self explanatory ...there is lots of good, interesting, information together with a gentle banter .....a good site ...well done GC...

hi friends, when I was looking for a gardening advise site I came across G.c.with great delight I JOINED AND I AM VERY IMPRESSED BY IT, I have no problem scanning active topics. For me non gardening matters is a harmless side show as long we dont loose our focus on gardening issues. In my view I dont think you will be getting members as fast as you are getting them now if you dont have a cross section of topics and members are actively interacting with the threads, members input are for the benefit of everyone and not just for a few.may be some members are a little bit disgruntled about the chatshow threads, it is only harmless banter nothing sinister about it in my opinion. I must be missing something, because I haven't heard anything bad about the chatshow threads as you call them, who's getting disgruntled? not me that's for sure.
Some of us like a little friendly banter amongst ourselves, the same as some members like to use the game threadsand other boards.
I haven't got anything but praise for this site and forum.
It is I think the best one I have come across, though I haven't been looking since I joined this one.
It has been a pleasure finding it and talking to so many different people from all walks of life and all with different ideas aned views on a whole range of subjects
I apologise for anyone I may have offended along the way and I do not apologise for anyone I have made smile either...

The fact that more people are joining every day must say something....

Bearing in mind Frans' second comment about new members' impressions, the reason I joined was because the contributors appeared to be keen and knowledgeable gardeners but had a sense of humour.
I've been trying to keep an eye on the active topics content and a lot of it is non gardening. I'm a regular and I know the serious gardening stuff is still there, and I do enjoy a lot of the chat that goes on outside of the strictly gardening stuff, but I wonder if I would have joined after quickly glancing through active topics.
Any more people think a first section of active gardening topics would be a solution if feasible? [IMG]

If its possible that sounds reasonable :D . So you click on 'Gardening Discussion' and the active topics link at the top only posts active topics within 'Gardening Discussion' rather than reverting to a summary of all the Active topics.

I can see how this would appease some members but I'm not convinced it will make any difference to the appeal of GC to new members. I think its more than obvious what GC is all about and how good it is. Good idea though :D
