Giant banana - Ensete montbeliardii

      I think I would rather depend of a cut rather than a heavy frost. :snork:

      Ooh, I just ordered a Maurelii but wishing I'd found this thread first now because Montbeliardii looks more suitable for our small garden because of its upright habit.

      I've seen elsewhere that the leaves of Montbeliardii can look severely shredded however. But I guess that's all down to exposure to wind? So protecting it in a sheltered spot will keep the leaves more in tact?

      Yup. Any banana growing in an exposed site looks manky.
