Pricked mine out yesterday, they have made a good root system compared to my 'normal' onions from seed:

    Still under the growlamps:

Those pots look a bit too large for the size of seedling maybe, but more likely the difference is mine are under grow lamps for 14 hrs/day.

Not sure how the first lot are doing as I planted them out in Thomas Hardy's garden, bet the bloke's made soup from them by now.

Pricking out is the process of moving a bunch of seedlings whilst they are young into individual pots, you have to be gentle - make sure the pot is well watered as it helps teasing apart the seedlings. Handle carefully by the leaves not the stem (as it's easy to crush and kill a plant that way). Some people use a pencil or you can buy special tools to yank out the seedlings and separate them, personally I just use my fingers.

Oh, thank you for explaining that. I was worried it meant some kind of mini pruning:redface:

I put my seeds in soil blocks and try to only get one per block. :)

Ah so no 'pricking out' is needed. You'll need to 'pot on' when they out grow their blocks.

I put them in plastic drinking cups a few weeks back and have larger pots ready for them when they grow big enough.

Just so glad I didn't miss an important step :phew:
