Keeping in the spirit of alcohol and onions lol. My biggest as of today. Measuring just shy of 17 inch circumference.

I am curious as to what is the thinking behind the plastic round your onion beds? Is there not a risk with too much heat in the soil, that bolting may occur earlier? As I live in NE Scotland, I might try this next year as too much heat is not something we suffer from too often lol.

As the top is open, I don't think heat should be an issue. I imagine it gives good wind protection.

I seem to be growing a variety of Kelsae onions which are in the diet class. Mine have changed very little.....

Maybe something to do with the cooler temperatures we've been experiencing...

As Freddy says it's mostly for wind protection, my garden is very exposed on a northern hill slope.

I've used wind break material with holes in it, just used plastic sheeting. This year I'm trying to grow Sweetcorn outside and have built an igloo out of fleece to keep some warmth in.

Lori: its the weight of the bulb that we are going to compare, but obviously we can't weigh till we harvest, so whilst it is growing measure the circumference around the bulb.
