    Take out all the dead and straggly bits Nick, and see what you are left with. I doubt it will flower this year so aim to get it in good heart to flower next.

    Well,I managed to crunch out the old wood and I was surprised just how hard and tangled it was!

    There are plenty of new shoots,but this other one hasn't any at the base. Do I leave well alone?

    Nick, you`ve done a good job on the first one. With the second I would it leave for now and see what happens, you can always trim it later on.

    Would a top dressing of Growmore be in order and replacing the top couple of inches of Compost too?

    I would certainly freshen the compost, Nick, but unless they are out of the cold weather, I would hold fire on feeding them.
