Just put up my scroll saw, too many problems to sell it.

The first response always gives them their number and asks you to ring them.

I have given away a few things on Freecycle , no real problems with the items being collected. When someone is calling I always stipulate a time saying I am in from 5 to 7 pm only for collection, then I am not hanging around.
Some times when I have sold small items on Ebay , I often had someone from the London area buying it , even though I made my location and motorway exit very clear. I had to explain to them do you really want to travel 200miles up the motorways for a £20 TV set !

Someone advertised some picture frames yesterday and Mrs Shiney wanted some. So we went there to collect (next village) and they were absolute rubbish! Damaged, thick with dust and the house was filthy!

I would only give away what I was happy to receive, re the tele still nobody interested, so will probably put it back on top of freezer as too good to dump, with the winter coming I may put it on if working in the kitchen.

If reading this right Jane, they want you to ring them, sounds like a dealer.

Unfortunately old style TVs are not at all popular. I had a 36" Panasonic to give away but nobody was interested!

Everything with our local Freecycle is done by email. People rarely ask for, or offer, phone numbers.

Or maybe a scammer, it could be a premium rate number. We have had some warnings on our local site about this, apparently sometimes a gifter will send you a premium rate number too after an initial email exchange. It's never happened to me, just something to bear in mind.

Hi shiney, did you pick up the picture frames then or politely decline?

I haven't been the recipient of any free items yet but I did wonder what the "form" was if you go along to look at something and decide it isn't for you after all, is that fair enough, no harm done?:pcthwack:

Once you've looked at the item(s) it's quite easy to say "thank you, but it's not what I was really after.".

That is what we did in this case. It was much more polite than say that the things were rubbish and the house is a tip! :heehee:
