Sounds rather like me - I need one pair for distance/driving (so 2 pairs to provide an essential spare in case of breakage), and another for 'reading' everything between a book/computer screen (but no good for dashboard controls because I wouldn't be able to see beyond the car bonnet in them), so again a need to have a second pair in the car for reading whilst out & about, but if I wear them in shops I'll fall over my feet.

But none of those work with small print that I have to hold 300mm from my face and can only read without spectacles. I tried varifocals but fell over my feet whilst walking, thought them dangerous to drive in, and absolutely impossible to lie in bed and watch TV whilst wearing them.

I find it quite frustrating having to wear my glasses, because I only need them for looking at the computer screen. That means if my colleagues suddenly speak to me, I have to take my eyes off so I can see them properly, then remember to put them back on when I look back at the computer.

If this is a taste of things to come, I think I might save up for laser eye surgery. I know a few people that have had it done, and they all said the same. Absolutely ruined eyesight for a few days, the 20/20 vision. Sounds ok to me.

Things I find hardest is say working from a ladder etc. Situations where you are doing fairly close work but also need to see where you are putting your feet.
I'm forever flipping mine up onto the top of my head and then back down again.
The lenses get dirty very quickly like this.

I've wasted quite a bit of cash over the last few years buying varifocals, trying to get your head into the correct angle for the distance you are looking is practically impossible I find.
Also they make everything look either curved or diamond shaped.

I tried varifocals but, although they did graduate the change from near to far, the near part had very restricted vision width wise (may have been because of my prescription). My bifocals have a much better width vision but I have a single vision, intermediate, pair to use at my desk/computer. I also keep an old pair of distance glasses in the car for emergencies.

With varifocals I found it impossible to watch TV in bed lying down, so had to either sit up, fix the TV to the ceiling or have a separate standard specs. I opted for the latter.

I have worn glasses for the past 50 years.

I wear varifocals, but I also wear contact lenses, they are made as a single lens, and then I use glasses to read.

I tried varifocal contacts, but could not see long distance. I want to have the op, but my opthamologist says I should not do it. Glasses can be a real pain, as said when raining, but you have to be careful with contacts when opening the oven door, or frying food.
So, unless something else better comes along, I am just going to put up with what I do now.

They are an absolute liability when cycling in the dark and rain towards headlights and need constant wiping with tissues. The same when sea fishing, you need to use tissues (rather than your hands) to clean them in between baiting up hooks otherwise they get horribly smeary. Then a few days/weeks later you find loads of nasty damp tissues in the pockets of your waterproof that you'd forgotten about.

That is a problem with varifocals shiney the vision window is not wide at all as yo have to look straight through them pretty much as if you look sideways things take on a curve... :heehee: It was a nightmare to start with but now happy with them but one has no periferal vision any more which can be a nuisance sometimes.. :help:
