I grow G superba too, which I originally started from seed, and only had problems once when I decided to add water retaining gel to the compost, ooops, lost half the tubers to rot, with it being in my sunroom thought it dried out too quickly but obviously thats what it likes, mine seems to thrive on neglect too, must admit it usually gets watered when I remember :heehee: , I just use ordinary compost I use for potting up all my pots and baskets with a bit of slow release fertiliser and repot fresh every year, here's mine today 5ft tall and first bud showing.

I might give superba go, must say it looks a stronger and more vigorous plant than rothschildiana :dbgrtmb:

            Looks superb Simbad!

My G.superba is doomed not to flower this year! Two pots with five stems - three stems had buds and two of those have been snapped. The remaining buds have stalled in this Arctic weather, and the remaining stem without buds is getting very thin on top. Fingers crossed that they're producing lots of tubers under the soil.

Swapped another pot of G.superba with OH for her G.rothschildiana as it was doing nothing. Shoved the pot at the back of the greenhouse where it has sat for the last six weeks doing nothing. Tonight I noticed that it has two stems emerged in the last week standing about 30cm high.
