I would not like to do this from past experience of hot bedding, On a sludgemarine, with 100 crew there are 50 beds,
So the guy sleeping gets up, and lets his opposite number go to bed in his bed
ie:- the mechanic works all night, the relief mechanic, takes over and the night mechanic gets into the day mechanics bed and so on
It is nice and warm though :-)

So is this the first grown up generation of "participation trophy winners" where everybody wins and nobody loses because that might hurt their tender little feelings? How many would vote for sleep pods if they had to work to raise the money to buy them?

So it seems as though we have a consensus of whether we should pamper the little darlings :lunapic 130165696578242 5: :rasp:

No I disagree, I think it's the survey questions at fault. If you ask a leading question about doing less for more then most younger people would say yes without giving too much thought. I don't think today's youngsters are any different to past generations, most of the new grads that come to my office each year are the same hard working people keen to get on in life but with next to no experience.

I agree with a lot of what you say. :dbgrtmb: Although I think that there is a larger proportion of youngsters today that don't really want to work so hard. We noticed when interviewing that, over the years, the attitude to hard work had gradually changed for the worse.

Where I definitely agree is that the wrong questions are being asked but some of the options shouldn't even be put forward. That's where I'm implying that we are pampering them. :)

Totally agree. #1 son graduated in July. He was the one who liked to have a "good social life" plus he was working some evenings and most weekends (partly to fund his social life :heehee: ) However, the people he was house sharing with were not of the considerate kind and would think it a hoot to knock on his door at 7am when he had only arrived home at 5am.
Conversely, #2 son (he'll graduate next July) is in a shared private "student" rent. He is not a party animal and views his time at Uni for just that: university work! Unfortunately, half of the house share occupants see it as one long party.
So: yes! Tiredness can be a real problem.

Never experienced a 3hr one, but, in First Year I admit to dozing off during a last afternoon lecture  I only woke up because my pile of books slid off my lap :heehee: I was just sooooo relieved I hadn't begun snoring!!!! :roflol:

Now, what about *this* guy then:
Graduate sues Oxford for £1m over 2:1 degree
               Poor man ;)

We can't put a 'funny' and 'agree' but that's what I wanted to do. :dbgrtmb:

Apart from the fact that I wasn't able to read much of the article without signing up :nonofinger: he seems to have overlooked that other people managed to get a first whilst on the same course.

So he was, obviously, less able than they and I suggest (posit, hypothesise, postulate etc.) that he would not have become one of the high earning elite as the others would always have been above him. (I can argue against this predicated position too! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:)

.. An Oxford graduate is suing the university for £1m, claiming that “appallingly bad” and “boring” tuition had cost him a first-class degree and robbed him of the high-flying career he had coveted ..

Why did he finnish the coarse, why didn't he move to another university if it was that bad

Because he's a bloody idiot, and it's easier than working.

If it goes to court I hope he ends up paying for all the costs, this kind of rubbish needs to be sorted out fast.

He'll go on to become a manager or director or something, and nobody will like him because of his blame first attitude, but he will thrive.

Life is rarely fair, and certainly doesn't generally favour the honest hard working folk.
