Only problem is Rodney the Rat would also make full use of the new thoroughfares.

I remember many years ago there was talk that all motorways in the UK that pass through the country side should have tunnels or passages under it (at regular intervals) to allow hedgies and other wildlife to go from one side to another without having to actually cross the road.
Don't know if it was implemented or not.

We used to have a one that came to our garden, we used to put out food and water for it, not seen for a couple of years now :frown:. I could do with another one visiting again I have plenty of slugs waiting

I haven't especially built it anywhere, but my garden is (deliberately) far from the manicured show garden. There's plenty of nooks and crannies, and areas left to go a bit wild.

Sounds like a good idea to me too.

Was this hedgehog seen at night or during daylight hours ? Sows with nursing babies sometimes pop out for a bite to eat during the day. Any other hog out during daylight hours is most likely sick and in need of help.

True, but nothing really stops rats anyway. Don't think the tunnels were ever introduced, certainly not in existing main roads anyway. They might be in new roads or in more rural areas.

Some tunnels and 'green' bridges (for deer) have been built during road construction but very few due to the extra expense.

We used to have a 'frog watch' team up on the common...there are/were literally hundreds of Frogs that used to cross the road to get back to the waterlogged field and many got squished so a group set up nights when they would 'help' the frogs across...not sure they still do it now...

How on earth did they manage that without causing a hazard to motorists, especially at night?
I'd assume that they would have to stop traffic and let/help/scoop the little green guys across the road.

A guy I work with has caught 4 rats in his house :hate-shocked: the first they knew of it the cat had corned one under the piano in the living room when all watching tv , the other 3 he put a trap down which came as even more of a shock, pest control going round to his about 5 pm tonight we all just sat and listened to the story this morning , he thinks they have broken through pipes leading into the kitchen :yikes: .

the cats only about 10 months old , at least it had a go.

                PVC no doubt?

                Good.
I'm not much of a cat person, but I do make the neighbour's ones feel welcome in my garden exactly for the purpose of getting rid of any rodents that may be lurking.

As my plot is next to the railway I often get hedgehogs roaming round my plot.at this time of year I have to keep my eyes open as we have to net all cabbage etc to stop the pigeons getting to the young plants,as the slugs also like the plants hedgie goes under the nets and get's caught in it so we have to release them, check that they are O.K.and watch them toddle of.

When I was working on the farms we had on one farm a cat that caught rats for her kittens ,she was the only cat that was allowed to keep her kittens. We always could find her as there was always lots of rat skins about.
