Thanks for all your help again guys and dolls

We have a large grave ... probably 3 or 4 in it ... plus my mom and dads ashes ... plus a memorial to my grandad killed at passiondale ww1 aged late teens ... had a nose some years back when it was opened and theres prob room for a couple more in there now. Families in those days were big church goers, mine were in charge of sunday school, etc.
Thats where it came from ... suppose today it would cost thousands

Suppose one these days I will end up in there one way or another ...LOL

Didn't even think about the "modern" writing they put on graves now  I was thinking of the carved names where a wire brush would get into the nooks and crannies :heehee:

You can tell I come from a line of cremations

 Yes it is but it is excellent on stone too & just about everything.. http://www.armillatox.com/ I don't leave it on there though & I agitate it with a softish nylon scrubbing brush, rinse well dry & seal with the wax.. Job done.. ;) I am very careful around the lead lettering but it is still all holding fast... Ours is a family grave plot too & i just like to keep it all clean & tidy up there.. I think of it as a little extension to my garden cos one day I will be up there too... I don't go there because "I think they are there"... It is just the family plot where friends & relies can have somewhere to go to remember & celebrate the lives of our departed ones, young & old... Plus it is a beautiful place..

I saw my Maternal Nana once or twice and my Grandad only once (in hospital) These two grandparents are my Dad's. He's the begger who ran away from home in 1913 ish and changed all his names fore and sur without deed poll. Try genealogy with that start!

        Cheers, Tony.

I don't think that makes you a "sad sack", Our Mandy.

And I do agree on your sentiments re: "still" love.

I have no grave to visit for my loved one's who are no longer in this physical world. But, there are places which hold a special significance. Nor do I make a regular visit, but, I do take time to go to those places periodically and to have some "reflection" time.

I know of some really interesting stories of my Great-grandparents which gives an insight into who they were, and, as a consequence, where some of their genes have been passed down :heehee: I only know, because my parents spoke of them and passed it on. Thus secures a little bit of immortality for them ;)

Thanks, Mum. As I said it one of those things you do or you don't. I can't break the "connection" with my wife, and nor do I want to, so making sure she always has fresh flowers, has bouquets for the special occasions act as a kind of solace to me. It's also somewhere to go when dark thoughts overtake me and I can sit there and remember the good times, and it keeps me sane [to a point:heehee:]. My wife was a person with strong family feelings and we would visit her Mums and Dads grave to make sure all was well. I still keep an eye on it for her now so I'm just honouring her in that way. Some people find it easier to avoid visiting a grave and remembering a person as it is less painful, we all handle things in a different way.:snork:

In our country churchyard many of us like the graves the way they are, as they change over time, with the weather, and with their natural surroundings.
I am always very sad when someone cleans a grave .... your mould and algae may well be lichens, signs of fresh air, which give a beautiful colour to weathered stone.
Time passes, for the living and the dead, and is that not how it should be?

My mom and dads "tablet" was placed at the front of the grave some ten years ago and the mould effects the left hand side and you can not read the leading ... looks like giving it a bit of a clean when the weathers better .. the rest is not too bad ... they probably do not make marble to last like they used to .... lol
