It's a shame that something so pretty can be so destructive.

I have just now come across this Sis, and I think they look just darling. I also think the one with the leaf on its head is the cutest - bet it is a lady one all decked out with her Sunday hat!

Don't send me any though, have enough critters gobbling their way through various plants in our garden. But thanks for that great picture!

I've just read this as well, the photos are really great, very comical creatures! They would make great toys.
As LoL says, sad that they are destroying vines. Could they be taken somewhere else?

The little darlings think they are "Cool"!!!! We found a cocoon of one a couple of years ago and kept in in the kitchen until it emerged as a moth - absolutely beautiful!!
...... they're probably on t'other half's grapevine 'cos the've scoffed all the nettles and weeds!! :D [IMG] (better them on his plants than yours!!!! [IMG] )

Too true, Honey, and must say, haven't seen any nettles lately. :D However, the weeds never go away. :(

I still think they're cute too. [IMG]

Oh, strongy, what a darling it is, even cuter than mine, if that could be. No, probably I don't want it on my Oleanders though.

My friend here thinks he now has a few of similar ilk ... they have gobbled all his cabbages, much to his dismay.

Can we not find somewhere for these little darlings to live so we can just admire their cuteness until they become beautiful flying citters?

I thought that too Sis but didn't dare say it in case strongy had my head for it! But I think that your good idea calmed him down.

    In the meantime ------

    - Hubby thought that yours look quite cute too - Hubby thought and actually said that???

    - and I thought that the one wearing her leaf hat is the mama, the little one behind her the baby (sort of trying to hide but still have a look too) and the one up front is the papa.

Aren't their little spikey tails dinky? Some dogs hold theirs like that.

Thank you, strongy ... you know what my next comment will be to you ... :D [IMG]

What a sad state of affairs is this natural world that we live in and have these adorable critters who gobble everything we own and then become beautiful creatures who just fly away and leave us cursing and speechless (well, some of us)!

You know that Oleander leaves are very bitter and deadly for children, if I remember right. And the little chap is just having his salad...

mira, my dear friend, 80% of my garden is deadly to animals and children ... but one doesn't allow them to eat the flora. [IMG]

Sis ... don't you think strongy's little fella is one to die for (and it's prettier as a moth) ... little blue eyelids, handies, white tummy ... ?????? Even cuter than t'other half's pure green rubber cuties?

    (Oleander Hawk-moth Daphnis nerii)
Hi Strongy where did you spot that they are very rare in this country you see the moths occasionally but not the larvae, they feed on periwinkle as well as oleander on the continent(a real beauty).

Yes, Sis, strongy's little fella is darling too, the way he is holding his food .........

Walnut, I've never seen either one of them or the moth here in our garden and we have masses of periwinkle. Must make a note to look often next year.

I looked up the name you gave and came up with this marvellous picture - the third one down on the left. Is it disguising itself with a Halloween ant-eater mask or is it actually wearing a gas mask???

Wanut they (three of them) were on the Oleanders in a hotel garden in Turkey not here, I did post the avatar pic last year with my holiday pics but you may not have seen it.
BTW had a brief visit from a Humming bird Hawkmoth this morning only the second this year.
