Greenfly! What is going on?

    Yes, ants farm greenfly but, apparently, prefer blackfly. So if you see ants climbing a stem you should look for the aphids under the leaves.

      What are aphids? (I take it they are a pest) but colour and some info please

      Superfamily Aphidoidea, suborder Homoptera. Blackfly, greenfly, whitefly and other types that suck the juice from plants.

      But not me when I have a stick of sugar cane in my mouth. :heehee:

      Thanks for that will trawl GC to find some tips on prevention (apart from washing up liquid spray) :thumbsup:

      Silly question but .... how high do greenfly actually fly?

      My daughter lives in a 3rd floor flat without a balcony (well, 6" hardly counts as a 'balcony') but she grows a few lettuce from seed in flower pots on her windowsill. Considering she's at work all day and these plants spend their entire lives inside, how come when I went to water them last week whilst she was on holiday, they were suddenly smothered in greenfly? :what: :dunno:

      yeah..even my arms!sick of the frikkin things x bug spray works :) ..on plants i mean :heehee: x not aphid impulse :)
