For foundation levelling, i`d recommend making yourself a cheap water level which are extremely accurate.
A spirit levels usefulness is usually restricted by its length, a water level can be as long as you like.

All you need is an old 5L plastic paint tub (rinsed out), some clear tubing, a stick and some water :)

    Hi All,
Well, I have not been very well at all this last week and neither has my wife so I contacted the place I had the greenhouse from to see how much they would charge to errect it.

They are charging £100 to errect it which I didnt think was too bad becasue If I start breaking glass it will soon mount up plus I will have a lot less hassle. I know it is the cheating way out but I need it up ASAP especially now it is SNOWING in Oct! Goodness only knows what Nov will bring!

I am interigied (SP) about the water level though. How do you make them and use them?

£100 is not too bad - it must be a few hours work and it would need two people so sounds a reasonable price to me.

Heres a link about water levels:
    http://www.factsfacts.com/MyHomeRepair/WaterLevel.htm

I have bought one from Screwfix and used it to get the levels on my house extension foundations spot on - they are accurate to a couple of mm -better than a laser level and much cheaper - about £10. Personally I would not bother to use mine on a greenhouse base, it does take a fair amount of time to set up and use, and needs two people really - also a greenhouse doesn't need to be exactly level like a house foundation does.

"water level ... How do you make them and use them"

Bit of hose with a of bit of clear tube on each end. Fill the hose with water and then arrange at the "site". The water will keep its level, so the water-level you can see in the clear tube ends will be at the same height.

Might be worth thinking about where you will put a water butt, and how you will collect the rain from the gutters (assuming you want to!).

Putting the water butt at the back (i.e. far end from door) means you can run a pipe from one side to the other, or pipes from both gutters to the middle. If you do that at the front then you need two butts, one each side, or a pipe that goes across the door opening some how :cnfs:

Then you want a small fall, rather than dead level, so that the water flows towards the water butt end :thumb:

Its better to use a container at the reference end ( anything with a large area) as it improves the accuracy, especially at distance.
Buy a couple of metres of 1/2" bore clear pvc tube from the local petshop and extend it with normal garden hose. (15mm copper tubing makes a good connector)
The screwfix level is £16.50, a homemade one will cost well under a fiver and is more accurate.

My hubby would have put the greenhouse up but with him not being too well I had to ask them to erect it. I did not mind leveling the floor. It was all done in a day.

Maybe it's living in Yorkshire too long but if I had to pay another £100 on top of the price of a new greenhouse I would spend the extra £100 to get a better greenhouse and just buy a crate of beer and con a few burly men to help me out! Hel.xxx.

Well, Not living far (sort of) from yorkshire, I know exactly what you mean however, had I not paid it, It will be quite some time before the greenhouse is up and opperational. In the meantime, I could stand to loose all my plants I need to overwinter, so it has to be fairly quick.

Had my original plan happened and I brought the greenhouse earlier in the year, it would not have been a problem. Great plans eh! lol.

Good idea Hel, but coming from Yorkshire as well I've a good idea it might cost you more than £100 in beer and you'd end up with a wonky Greenhouse :)

I have got two downspouts with the greenhouse, so they will be attahced at the far end, away from the door like you say and then hopfully feed into one waterbut in the middle.

    Hi all,
Well, My Greenhouse is finally up! Yipeeeeeeeeee.
There should have been two people coming to errect it but only one could come so I was able to assist in the putting up. It was good as I was able to see how everything went together. I was glad I did get someone to errect it for me as I certainly would have made a mess of it but now I know how it goes together, I would feel a little more confident in the future.

Anyway, all my plants are in there now and I have a parasene heater (parafin) in there at the mo but hoping to get electric in there very soon.

    What's all the fuss about?

I have 2 greenhouses to erect, neither with instructions and the larger 16' x 8' one has been sawn in half too! Do you see me panicking?

Not yet you don't cos I I haven't even started on the bases yet! LOL

I'm looking forward to the challenge :D
