Hi again. Not sure what you mean about the `best` man winning ? Is anyone else taking part ? Anyway, the best way I thought would be to grow two `sets`. One set grown as normal(control)and the other grown using the `Dai` method [IMG] As space is at a premium right now, I plan to grow maybe a dozen in all. Does that sound a reasonable amount? Cheers...freddy.

That sounds ample, freddy, I would start the seeds off in the cold frame rather than in the ground. And you are right to grow 2 sets with 1 set acting as a control.

Ok, I`ve decided on these http://www.suttons.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?product=MH903 I`m going to buy two, seems like a good deal. I`ll phone them tomorrow and hopefully they can deliver before too long. In the meantime I thought I`d start off the Greyhound(bought the seed today)in a pot, taking into account the delivery date for the cold frames. Cheers...freddy.

Hi folks. The seed are sown and some of the raised beds are in place. What I`d like to know is, is there something I can add to the raised bed(being used for this trial)to bring up the fertility level ? Maybe something like `6X`? I`ve seen so-called manure products in places like B & Q but I have my doubts about these, when I`ve used them in the past they didn`t look much like manure. Maybe someone can say different ? Cheers...freddy.

Freddy sorry didn`t notice the postings about the 6x. I didn`t add anything like that to the soil when I grew the cabbage, just fed them with Growmore once they had established in the ground. Good to hear the seeds have germinated. Now it gets exciting. [IMG] :D

Hi Dai. So far nothing has been added to the soil, and I take on board what you say about the growmore. Do I just apply it the once ? Also, I read a post you put up (can`t remember where)saying that gowmore only lasts a short while and that B/F/B lasts longer. As it happens, I have some B/F/B that I bought recently. Would I be better off adding this instead ? And, if so, when ? Going off-topic for a moment, I have one of those `wolf` thingies that you can attach different implements to. Could you advise me as to the attachments that are a MUST ? With thanks...freddy.

:)I for one will be watching this challenge with a great deal of interest, sounds great fun guys, I might even have a go myself but not as part of the challenge tho, just out of curiosity and interest. I've a raised bed with nothing in at present so i've space to use. Its going to be a pleasure watching your challenge develop freddy and david. Best of luck freddy. Marionj.

This has been a very amusing thread to read. As a novice veg grower I think I might give this a go too! I'll let you know how I get on and try and post some pictures as it progresses.

I hope you are right David.

Just a quick P,S here. Can we have before and after photos, please? A photo of the plants as soon as they have been planted and cut. And then photos of just before they are harvested. I think, originally, that was sometime in August.
