We shall be put to bed by the cats at 9.30pm, as usual, and woken at 3.30am, as usual, with a feline breakfast for two order of mackerel in spring water.

Very grinchy! I'm awaiting the results of tests done before Christmas, and it can't all be over soon enough AFAIC. I know that medical staff work very hard and don't begrudge them a minute of their celebrations and holiday, but it doesn't stop me cursing my luck that it all should have fallen at this time of year and mid-week to boot. Most workers here will take a couple of days holiday to 'bridge' the gaps between the bank holiday and weekend.

I wasn't going to be that person, because I knew "which day the bins had been moved to"...
I woke up at 5am in a cold sweat, knowing (somehow ) that bin day was looming, but I had not put the bins out. I somehow lost track of the days (assisted by extra rations of wine, no doubt) - I was permanently stuck on Wednesday, my brain could not compute the passing of the days. I looked out and it was confirmed: all the responsible neighbours (mostly opposite) had neatly stacked their bins on the pavement. A few neighbours had done something similar on my side, (but none for at least 3 houses both ways). I slunk outside at 05:20, & quietly and in slow-motion, deposited my bins on the pavement, feeling relieved, until of course later in the morning, when those whose bins had not been put out, on realising they had too much rubbish, dumped their latest empties EDIT: IN MY BIN I MEANT TO WRITE!!!(chocolate biscuits, cider cans and an 'xmas box set of aftershave' ) The cheek!

@noisette47 - I hope everything is ok - waiting is horrible. Just goes to show that it’s not all champagne and sparkly jumpers this festive lark. For those with worries, the festivities must be very jarring.

We won't be doing anything much for New Year, but will most likely stay awake, accompanied by our cats, until the fireworks and shouting have died down. It's forecast to start slinging down rain tomorrow teatime and carry on through the evening and night, which might encourage people keep their noisy parties indoors. Sod's law says the forecast will change again though.

Me as well @Jiffy. Just another day as far as I'm concerned
I do have sympathy for our capital's cancelled Hogmanay events though. A blow for all the folk who enjoy it, and for those involved in arranging it as it's a huge deal up here - over on that side anyway!
Fingers thoroughly crossed for you @noisette47 . The waiting is horrible. I hope it gets sorted out quickly, and most importantly - I hope it's good news for you. Wishing you all the best for the coming months.

Finish work today then batten down hatches and lock the doors, draw the curtains until Thursday; when the wind will have blown itself out and the rain stopped. Plenty to read and listen to.

                            To misquote W. H. Auden

"Stop all the fireworks, cut off the lights"

Would possibly be a good line for quite a lot of people - and all the pets.

I remember seething about the "Millenium" being celebrated in 2000. It makes more sense to think that the new millenium began in 2001 .....

Lots of people will be travelling to Scotland specifically for the celebrations too. So they are likely to suffer travel disruption and then find all the events cancelled.
