Which is why they should always check before going @Escarpment - especially up here . I can't remember it ever being cancelled, which just shows how poor the weather is just now.
We've got a lot of flooding too, all over the place, but especially the north west, where the rain has been severe. Our local roads were quite bad earlier when I was out, but most of them are at a good height above all the local burns, so it's really just in dips in the road, and when there's drain blockages and the water runs downhill into those. The bit along from me is like that where the wall of the bridge prevents water getting away into the surrounding fields, but it's only four or five inches of depth.
Didn't stop the idiot coming the other way at that section driving as though it was all fine and dandy....

@fairygirl people have literally travelled half way round the world to be in Edinburgh for Hogmanay so cancelling at the last minute isn't possible for them. According to the BBC News it was last cancelled in 2016 (I think that's the year they said).
I hadn't realised the weather in some parts of Scotland had been so bad. Of course Scotland not being London, it rarely features in the news!

If you're coming from anywhere abroad, or the other side of the world, you're staying for more than a day or two though @KT53, and strangely enough - there are other things to see in Edinburgh, unless you're Taggart and/or Glaswegian when 'it's just one street and a floral clock'.... ;)
If you're travelling long distances to see or do anything at this time of year [or at any time of year really] you also have to accept it won't always go to plan.
I think it was 2006 the last time it was cancelled, but the whole New Year thing is of zero interest to me, so I might well be wrong. I don't think it'll have happened during Covid either, but that's different from a weather event.

I think @Sheal might be in the amber warning zone for serious rain. It's Inverness and the surrounding areas. Hope she's ok in the new plot.

Thank you @fairygirl. Yes, we're in the amber zone until later today, not that it makes a lot of difference.

We've had a lot of rain over the last month and the ground is saturated. My lawn is like a bog. Overnight we had snow and with the temperature having risen this morning it has turned to rain, although we've had some sun too. The forecast for the coming week is a mixture of snow and rain with daytime temperatures dropping into minus figures.
I didn't know that Hogmanay has been cancelled. As said previously it will upset, quite rightly, those people travelling here. The long range forecast (even though not totally reliable) should have been enough for the organisers to have made the decision to cancel earlier.

Just found out that the cat we fostered earlier this year with her 3 kittens, has been abandoned yet again by her irresponsible owner. A rescue association paid to have her sterilised and re-homed the kitties but decided that, legally, she should be returned to her 'owner'. It's -2C out there at the moment, barely got above freezing all day and this damned woman has gone swanning off to celebrate New Year somewhere, leaving her 6 cats to fend for themselves for several days. Words fail me!

I hope you or someone else have reported her for cruelty, @noisette47 ?
Me, I'd drag her outside, strip her to the bone, and leave her to shiver. And sleep quite happily afterwards.
                    But that's just me.

No point, @Tinkerton....France is sadly behind the times on animal welfare. There are lots of Brit-run associations trying to make a difference but they're overwhelmed. Echo your sentiments exactly re. what should happen to her and would be over there like a shot (it's 15kms from here) if either of us could drive at the mo. Just have to hope that some kinder-hearted neighbour will take pity on them, even if it's only to leave an outbuilding open.

Christmas tree (small potted tree) and the associated decs are cleared away. Just a few tins of biscuits and a few candles left out for now. It’s over.

Luckily the early fireworks around here were an anomaly - I then had a quiet evening before the main lot started at about 11:55pm. I live up on a hill with a good view over the town, so I went outside the back door to watch them.

Only one in ten houses down our road has taken their lights down. Our road seems at odds with the rest of the roads nearby, where there are hardly any lights. We'll see whose next to crack. We are all still very festive.

I leave the decorations up until 12th night or thereabouts, which for us is 6th January although some sources/traditions have it on the 5th. This year I'm away 3rd & 4th Jan so the tree will probably be coming down on the 5th. Might leave the other lights until the 6th - they don't take long to sort out.
