joolz68 I 've seen the video and it made I larf - just a bit of fun.... :imphrt:
Loli and "M" as well and any other chook keepers. Yes, I must confess I do love pictures (usually skip the Telegraph narrative and just look at the pictures..:roflol:) I would love to see a thread created "Pictures of my chooks eggs today" .I would love to compare the different types and colours,
      please,
      Jenny

I have a photo from last year of some eggs (with some of my home grown veg) ... a pale blue one, a pale green one, a white bantam egg, couple of beige eggs and one brown one

joolz68 Your set up looks wonderful! And your girls are really pretty :wub2: You can buy coloured legs rings if you want to be able to tell them apart.

Their combs and wattles are a beautiful shade of red, so laying should happen *any* day now :blue thumb:

:heehee: In this weather they will be making a quiche for dinner, with a green salad on the side (home grown) and some home made coleslaw. I'm going to pop a loaf in the bread machine in a bit, too.

            Thank you, Jenny :)

Our Mona (AKA Moaner) only lays every other day, but her eggs are twice the size of those laid by the other hens. Despite the size they are only single yokers and the length means we can't shut the lid on any egg box with one of her eggs in (the ones resting on the lid are about the same size as that 'in the box', it's just that they are a bit further away from the lens)

Bonny monsters..... :wub2: I wonder why it's her habit to only lay every other day Scrungee. Is it typical of her breed?
thank you for showing them to me - they look grand.. :dbgrtmb:

No, and we had a hen of another breed who laid eggs on less than a 24 hour cycle, so sometimes she laid twice a day! And the other hen of the same breed (from the same 'batch')laid a lot less but mainly double yokers

Thems not eggs: thems torpedos. OUCH! :hate-shocked:
Maybe, if you put them in the box the right way, you'll be half way to shutting the lid: just saying :heehee:

joolz68 - Wooohoo!!! Your first egg! :hapfeet: :yay: Great feeling when you find your first egg, isn't it? Actually, I still marvel when I collect eggs, such clever little machines they are :blue thumb:

Never really thought about it :dunno: I do know some chook keepers prefer to keep them on a concrete floor. Mine have all had the ground as flooring (but with a topping of varying things over the years - I've tried leaves in Autumn, straw when it was available, now I use a horse bedding as the ground litter).
However, they do free range (dogs permitting, now) and I think a firmer surface does keep their claws down. In the main, I've not had problems with their claws really (only one grew enormous claws, so I became a Chook Manicurist for a few days after that: you can only clip off teeny amounts at a time, you see).

If you consider they are, by nature, woodland birds and take your cue from that, I'm sure you will be fine. :)
