What a wonderful sight, the first egg, shown fresh - here on GC! :yay:. As M says it is a miracle of Nature and I now remember helping to collect my Aunt's hens' eggs and having one or two that were still warm...:imphrt:
    .
Maybe William and Kate's hatching will follow soon...

how long do the eggs last then Loli ? i always thought eggs would go 'off' if not refrigerated ? :)

one of our Quail hens actually laid an egg right into my hand once joolz68! it was kinda gross & amazing all at the same time :rofllol: the quail are quite tame & have little fear of hands, well she was poking around my hand looking to see if i had anything yummy & was just standing there on my palm when she suddenly fluffed herself up & looked 'odd'...ill even! "oh god" i thought "she doesn't look well at all"....then out popped one perfect egg right into my hand :thud: i dunno who was more startled her or me :heehee:

gosh you're doing well with them ain't you, in such a short time too! :dbgrtmb:
yeah the quail are very trusting little fellas i must say :wub2: i love how they come zooming over when they see you coming & hop all over your feet...im starting to think maybe they actually want to be stepped on, my goodness you have to be so careful ! they'd never stand being petted though but i think that's cos they're so itty bitty...although one of my old boys quite liked to have his head/face feathers tickled with a finger :imphrt:

i've just discovered they absolutely adore nasturtium leaves so i'll be growing that every year from now on so

And the chook addiction begins .... :heehee:

Sussex are good layers :blue thumb: Has your poorly girl recovered?

I had an Orpington, "Fatty Hatty" who arrived with a limp and never lost it. Never stopped her though: at first sight of the mealworm bucket she would Gallump across the lawn at a pace which put some of the other girls to shame :heehee:

Hi,..i dont know how to work quote now its all changed again :gaah:
Loli, the intro went really bad:huh:i snook them in when its was dark like i was advised but come 4.30 am all hell broke loose, they are at the bottom of the garden(150ft away) and the noise woke me up :frown:so up i got to try sort them out to no avail by 7.30 i made the decision to remove them,as 1 was limping badly (i emptied my 6x4 shed temporary)
It seems a lot better now thanks..i say it because after the photos i seen on the net im convinced its a cockrel,im being told it isnt but it aint as girlie as the other one
M.. i like orpington:)we went to matlock yest and i seen signs for chicken racing on 3rd aug, wouldnt mind watching it  i bet hatty could of won that then :heehee:
We bought a coop and run today for them both, just finised erecting the coop and wil try and do the run tomo,i shall take some pics in the morning :) i will have no garden left soon :loll:
                            Im worn out :phew: xx

That's the part i don't like about keeping chooks...the intros.....they can be quite vicious but they won't give up until they've sorted out who's boss....you just have to let them get on with it...unless ofcourse it gets too brutal then you have to intervene....it's not nice though is it......hopefully they'll sort themselves out soon and settle down:dbgrtmb:....
