I've just remembered I've got a load of onions in the ground now. They've been there since about the back end of October last year. They were apparently meant for autumn planting for harvest from March. Last time I looked a few weeks ago there were green shoots there. I'll have to go out tomorrow and see how they're getting on.

    Ayup all, its March...!

    onion seeds growing time

I have bought the seeds, i have several types of pots/containers to start them, so... questions/advice time

1: whats the best type of compost to start them in? MPC or seed compost?
2: should i put them in a module tray, 1 seed per pot/module or get one big tray and thin out later?
3: do i water the compost first then add seed and cover with compost on top or do i leave the compost dry and place the tray in a tray full of water?
4:i'll starting them off and growing on my window until April ish, is there a chance i could do something wrong? (ive seen the term 'bolting' mentioned, not really sure what this is)

any advice would be greatly appreciated as always, i'm currently sat at my office desk on my lunch getting excited about all the stuff i am growing!

I'm not the onion expert, but aren't onion seeds meant to be sown in early january?

    Earlier if growing for show/size.

March is fine, sow seed in a John Innes type seed sowing compost, keep it damp NOT wet!

I sow into seed trays then prick out at the "crook" stage into modules or individual pots, the choice is yours!

    Good luck
