    Shallow lined bog area...

Pot growing presents no problems. I lined the pot and punctured a couple of holes. Never dries out in a mix of soil, bark, compost and gravel. It restricts itself to a certain extent and produces loads of babies if you wanted to start again.

The other one is in a shallow lined (cheap PVC) bog area in the same growing mix. It tends to get the drive run off where it is, so it does well. All gunnera which can't get their roots into a pond or stream tend to flop in prolonged heat, but soon recover if given a revitalising drink. However, left too long the large leaves will give out..

Give it a go, they are very hardy and have had only leaf protection from me this year in a cold north facing windy front garden:)

Sniff, I want one too! (stamps feet with great violence)
Can they be grown from seed I wonder? I still don't know where to get "real" plants in my new place, I only seem to find bedding plants in the garden centers :-(

I also have a Rheum Palmatum, a close relative of the gunnera and a little more delicate.
