I'm so sorry you have had this awfull experience...there is definatley no need to apologise:dbgrtmb:....i'm sure we would all feel the same in such circumstances....i would go all the way with it as long as it's not anymore painfull for you....yes sadly the outcome remains the same but....dignity,respect and every consideration should be uppermost in these situations for ALL concerned... (Now i'm sorry for the rant) but these things hit nerves with me....

Hi Woo, We haven't spoken yet as I'm new here but I had to post in your thread. I'm so dreadfully sorry to hear about your loss but also about the way it was handled. I think your complaint is a good idea, it may make the vet stop and think the next time someone faces the traumatic situation you have just gone through. Good vets are worth their body weight in gold, when I had to have my dog put down my vet came to my house at a time which suited me and handled the whole time with amazing consideration. I'm sending you the biggest hug possible xx

Our situation was very similar (apart from the fact that we didn't think that the vets treated Oscar very well during the time they were looking after him) and we told them that we could be there in about 15 minutes. Their answer was that he was in distress and shouldn't wait. So we said go ahead.

When we received the bill for everything (a few hundred pounds - which was correct for all the work they did) Mrs Shiney wrote a letter asking them to explain why they had proceeded the way they did with the tests on him (they took blood from his jugular instead of his ear - which is normal). She had some more questions about the way they handled the situation and their customer care.

They never replied to the letter and a month later we received a statement. I returned the statement saying we weren't able to pay it until they had answered the original letter. We never heard from them again as they obviously weren't prepared to take us to court and have us ask the questions there. We checked with another couple of vets about how they would have gone about things. They said that, although they don't think our vet did anything that was technically wrong, they would never have handled things that way.

I handled things separately after that, as I have some influence in that town, and the vet (he was the senior partner in a group practice) has now ceased treating any animals apart from horses - which he is reputed to be very good at.

In your situation I would be inclined to follow through with an official complaint. I can't see any earthly reason why it couldn't have waited as she was under anaesthetic  - and you obviously have some other things you are happy about.

I'm so sorry you have had to go through with that on top of the sorrow of losing Gypsy.

Hi Woo, I am so sorry to hear about this. I know you would have been with her if you could have been, a similar thing happened with Megan but the vet did ring and ask my parents what to do as she was still under anaesthetic - they decided not to bring her round but they were at least given the choice. It's a sad situation, I wasn't with my two dogs at the end and it's something I have regretted. I hope you can get some resolution here.
