Hmmm.... Would be interesting to read the toxicology. I know some one who ate a MacDonalds and had a heart attack the next day, not convinced they where connected!!
Eating an excessively hot chilli in certain circumstances for certain people who are not capsaicinoid tollerant could and can be fatal. In a large enough dose with someone who is intollerant it can force the body into anaphylactic shock and the resultant can be fatal, but then it's the same as being stung by a bee, you could be unlucky and not know your intollerant to it until your throat clogs up and you keel over. I thought i was going to die the day i swallowed a teaspoon of 5mill extract - but obviously i didn't i was just being dramatic...
Ok, just read the article, you would imagine any reaction to capsaicin would be immediate as it takes effect as the capsaicinoids fill up the nerve receptors in the tongue. Secondly, between 7am and i think 10am is the peak time of day for people to have heart attacks, so could have been anything that caused it maybe he liked energy drinks - blame it on the red bull!!
while in New Zealand , I stopped in a pub and ordered a pizza , I`ve asked for some chili sauce and the waiter looked at me and told me that they only have real hot chili , nothing else , i told him , bring it on . it was Trinidad scorpion on the left (really fruty) and habalokia on the right. my stomac was in pain for 2 days , but it was incredible as both sauces are addictive , the more you eat the more you want. my tangue at one point stopped to move and my heart start to go really fast ..... that was really good.
