Marley - words simply cannot express how my heart feels for you right now. Majority of Westerners down there at the moment would've been there doing humanitarian work in the first place, and for them to experience this as well is just beyond belief. Haitians themselves have been through so much - there must be something special instore for their people - as one can only take so much during a lifetime for sure.

I do hope that you get news one way or the other soon Marley - it's hard being hopeful and just not knowing. If it's worst case scenario - she has certainly earned her wings.

Would be lovely to see some UK troops headed out there to help out.

Oh I really thank you all so much...... I really do.. Clueless you have it. I thank you for reminding me of that.......

It sickens me to read all about it but I feel compelled to do so at present.....
The government collapse is a catastrophe.....
It was a very corrupt & wrong government they had, but to have nothing now is awful...!!
The people of Haiti seem resigned to no one giving them imediate aid as has happened in the past with the hurricanes & floods they have had to wait days for help... It seems they are really given the help they need as a nation because of government & governments of the past.... Surely now is the time to help them, but I don't want to see some US military official in charge either.... I could go on, but I won't... Time for that later... I just want the help to get to the people who need it ... It sickens me to see the Red Cross sitting in the grounds of the presidential palace .... Too frightened to distribute aid...... Even to the thousands at the palace gates.....!!!!! They should be ashamed... You would not have found that in the past..!!
They should be out as they have in past catastrophes with army support..!!! The US & Spanish already there could surely supply those troops... If not why are we not sending troops to defend the aid convoys...............!!!???
Oh dear sorry.... I am now feeling so much anger as well as despair...... Funny how us western developed countries drag their feet with 3rd world countries that have nothing because of their corrupt greedy governments..............................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK rant over I am sorry...... I feel so helpless & wish I could contribute more.......... I never dream't I could or would be affected so much personally by this disaster..........
OK will shut up now.... Thank you everyone for your support.. x

Not seen much of this, but what I have seen is the usual, the first there is the US, but everybody hates them.
If I were them I'd give up, these places need some one to come in and take them over, as they seem uncapable of taking care of themselves in the best of times, let alone when a disaster strikes.

I hope you friend is OK Marley.

Have just heard that there have been after shocks measuring 4.5 on the richter scale - those poor people. People are afraid to be in any kind of a building at the moment.

Thanks everyone.. I think I feel a little more at one with the world today... I will not give up hope & to see the British firemen rescue that little child Meea with her mother who had been calling & talking to her all the time was restorative... All I can hope for now is that the rescuers get the equipment they need to find & help these people..... I have heard that one of the problems is political....!!! That Haiti will not let US helicopters fly over the city & country...!!!!! I do not know how true this is but it might explain some of the wait the people are having.....!!

I can't add anything else to what has already been said Marley except my thought are with you too.

I have heard via another forum from someone living in Dom Republic bordering Haiti that masses of aid are coming through there as the Haitian Government have all but given up.
