    I think they are called white marked tussock moth caterpillars after searching on Google-- the trees are quite small so with a ladder we could reach the top of the trees easy. Small child yes but at 9 mths bit too small--- I like this site, the answers make me laugh

    There is another great website for British moths

    http://www.ukmoths.force9.co.uk/

    look up "Pale Tussock" or another black and yellow hairy one would be "The Vapourer" a long shot would be "Grey Dagger"

    The White marked Tussock I belive is an American species.
