Cool, I'd definteely do that (got to get another rechargeable battery for my digital camera).

I'm not planting anything really exciting, just experimenting a bit with the classics - ivy, lobelia, hyacinths, crocuses and some other stuff that I'm not totally sure about.

Last summer was the first summer that I really planted anything in them, only because I was walking past Woolies and they had a 'buy one get one free' on their bedding plants. They didn't have a big selection, but I was hooked, I loved seeing the flowers and watching everything grow!

Anyhoo, here are pics from last year's boxes:

This year I've planted lots of bulbs which are starting to come up now, some are flowering. Got some seeds to plant as well in a couple of weeks.

Hi dendrobium. Thank you for your compliment [IMG] I'm a bit more organized this year, it was a bit haphazard that planting.

Yes, I'm really glad you can see the difference! I've planted a couple of ivies on either end of the east facing number and that seems to be helping a bit - the little crocuses that are sheltered by the ivies are doing OK. But I'm thinking that maybe I should put something in the middle...it needs to be upright and not too tall (about 30cms max as our windows swing outwards to open). I think it would help with making the groupings easier, although I quite like a bit of a messy look.

I'm sure there are some weeds in there *blushing* and I have no idea how that spider plant managed to get into the top windowbox, I don't even have any spider plants in the house! I also found some parsley growing in there at the end of the summer. Ah well, nothing if not exciting!!

Hi GM - I'm returning the compliment as you said hello to me in my newbie thread [IMG] Your window boxes look lovely!
I like cats too - I don't have my own but there are two that officially live three doors down from me but think they live in all the houses in the street. One of whom seems to think my home made netting "cloches", which are meant to keep the cats out of the veg beds, are actually cat hammocks... Back to the drawing board, although actually I'd probably be more likely to succeed if i tried to make him sit in the veg bed!
