Halogen ovens - Should I buy one?

I only use basmati rice. My steamer cooks it to perfection, and its not sticky. I think the trick is to only take the instructions as a guideline. The instructions for mine say to mix equal measures of rice and cold water. I disagree, because I think that by the time the steamer has heated that cold water to boiling, the timer will have run out and the rice wont be properly cooked, so I mix equal measures of rice and freshly boiled water out of the kettle. Or sometimes I make a cup of lemon and ginger tea, and use that instead of plain water.

 

We have a Rice cooker (have done since I lived in Japan as over there everyone had one [and that was back in the mid 70's]). Cooks rice to perfection every time, and then keeps it warm for hours if needs be; leaves the chef to concentrate on cooking everything else
