Can I advertise my hoplutch on here too please

What is it, Well hoplutch is best HM mixed with spent hops from the brewery
The garden smells just like Newcastle Brown, Once the Bees have a go at it
they put the Battle of Britain to shame, Worms dive deep and come up for more
every minute. Slugs eat their fill and just lay about in hammocks waiting for you
to take them to slug Valhalla

Jack McH (My brother will post a like post in a minute)

Hi again. It is wheat straw because the patented process works well with the natural tanins in wheat straw. Strulch was tested for five years and the claims we make on our bag were verified that way. It is the way the iron minerals bind to the straw that inhibits the build up of microbes so soil animals do not take it into the soil but it does rot down very very slowly and eventually releases nutrients and organic matter into the soil. The cost of top quality wheat straw is at an all time high. In tests earth worms flouished under Strulch and customers remark upon increased numbers and Strulch appeals to no dig gardeners for this reason. Yes it is good for Roses too and Geoffrey Smith was a fan of Strulch and said he had always used straw because it prevented black spot. As always leave a collar of space around woody stems. The patents are available to read- good bed time reading! See espacenet or google patents. The reference number is on our bags. Also the nutrient breakdown which is what you would find in straw and minerals commonly found in the soil. I hope that answers all the points above. You can see pictures of Strulch in use on our website and on our facebook page.

Mulching is good gardening practice what ever you use.

I use Rapport, chopped rapeseed stalks, and another make of poultry bedding whose name escapes me for the moment ? I've been taking this to my compost heap with the rabbit and chicken poo in the hope that it will produce the most fantastic compost ever lol watch this space :chicken: . I'm also using it as mulch before it's completely rotted as I read somewhere else , and here, that straw is a very good mulch
