We have had a good spell of weather in Scotland.

It goes against the grain having to add to improve soil that I buy.

As I am still and always will feed my plants.

I don't mind buying 'heavy' bags of moist compost for immediate use, but I'll choose light & dry ones to stash and use the following Spring.

At times I have bought compost which has been stacked all winter, its usually sodden and you have to try to dry it out before you can use it.
I prefer it on the dry side, adding water is my usual first thing after potting a plant.

I can agree with you here Pete but still disagree with all the fibre rubbish in the compost.

You have all given your thoughts and views so think now we should end the topic.

        Thanks to all who replied.

I tip mine in to a trug to dry out a little by the time I use it, then it goes onto my bench to be mixed with ,sand or vermiculite. So by the time it`s being used it is probably very dry. Then everything gets a good soaking anyway.

My nearest B&Q is 13 miles away in Swansea , so not an option, I go with what is available easily, of a satisfactory quality to me.

There is only one compost in my mind that is a quality product and it is arther bowyers have sold the product in all my previous garden centres that I ran and wholeheartedly recommended it

It dosnt go sour like the levingtons you mention ( even tho one of my mates is the area manager for that company)

The problem with some compost makers, is they have started "bulking out " traditional composts with " council made " compost. That is, compost made from domestic garden waste.

I thought that when I found the bits of fence panel in the J Arthur Bowers stuff - - I was disappointed too, as it wasn't cheap and from a well known name.
