Have they bolted? Are they ruined?

    But why only seven plants?

    There are a few other variables to consider too. Was fresh compost out of a bag used to germinate the seeds indoors? If not then there might be stray seeds in used compost and other seeds blown in by wind.

    This year, our home made compost was loaded with curley red kale and our leaf mulch with callaloo seeds. Obviously, these came from plants we grew in the community garden last year and found their way into the compost heaps.
