Hayter Help after Cable has broken

Replacement cable has arrived. Had a go at fitting it but the mower won’t start.

I have attached some pictures I’ve also noticed there is an issue with the deadman’s hand cable. The brass won’t screw on. Any help please?

 

I think you are getting confused the top handle is the dead man handle like it is with all mowers it need holding in when pulling the rope and holding in while using the lawnmower . Are you hold this lever in while trying to start it ?

The cable with brass on is to adjust the tension on the drive ( lower rear handle ) it will not stop the engine from starting .
