I use 3 myself, +/- 2 stops on the bracket..any more than 3 I found vegetation moved around too much.

    Here's one..three bracketed photos.

    I use three exposures. A minus 1EV a 0EV and a +1EV
seems to work ok for me on most subjects.
But if you have a very large EV range as I did in the Tornado picture in the National railway Musuem with the highlight coming from the roof, it may well be worth taken a whole range of several exposures at 1/3 EV and spending awhile processing various exposures for best results. For this a tripod is a must..
    Hope this helps

    A great start Woo!

I'm like Steve and Robert and use three bracketed exposures usually +/- 2 EV using aperture priority.

You can create an HDR image from a single jpeg if you make two copies of the original and then HDR the three images. The HDR software will allow you to set the range of exposure values. This is what I do when making an image for the GC Enhanced comp as rules say 'a single image'.

HDR processing is quite good WOO but I'm unsure about the composition. My eye was flitting between the two boats and neither really grabbed my attention as 'subject'. Try looking at the pic and putting your hand over either boat. With just one boat visible it seems (to me anyway) to work better.
Just a very subjective and very amateur analysis.

Hi Dave your comments are always most welcome and valued :thumb:
I Cloned the small boat out in the foreground as advised to see which
is preferred:), definitely a vast improvement ,maybe a bit more cropping?

Some very neat cloning there Woo!
I copied the pic and had a play about with various croppings, but just couldn't make up my mind!
One thing you might like to play with is seeing what images look like when 'mirrored'. I've found that on some it does make a difference particularly where movement across the frame is involved or implied. There's probably some 'rule' about it, but If i ever knew it I've forgotten it.
Here's a cropped version of your pic 'mirrored'. I'm not suggesting it's any better but it's just to let you see the difference.

I've spent an hour or so trawling through my holiday photo archive. This is a HDR'd version of one of my favourites from last year.
