High Dynamic Range software was developed to help digital Photographers capture the dynamic range in a Photo, that can not be captured in one single exposure in some high contrast situations, for example a high contrast scene could be the shadow side of a mountain, house, wall etc whilst the sky and perhaps the foreground are brightly lit by the sun peeping over the top of it.

Normal film cameras would have made a much better job of such a scene, but digital can not..so HDR software evolved.

I've written the above as a rough explanation of its developement because now the users of such software are split into two camps, those who wish to produce photos as they saw them when they pressed the shutter button...and those who want to produce art.

    Which camp are you in?

    Steve...:)

I'm in both camps Steve and will be a very happy chappie when I can get any of my landscapes to approach those of yours I've seen.

Was there at Troutbeck in early April Steve, but only for a couple of nights and it was colder than home in Scotland. Didn't have time for photography and the light was dreadful anyway.
Next time we come down your way I'll PM you in advance and take you up on your offer.

Hope to get up to Durness (top lefthand corner of UK) later this month and looking forward to some 'wide and wild open space' photography
    :D

(Son is currently stranded on Handa Island due to gales - 70 mph winds today !)

Woo - I like the image, but IMHO it would be better with the bright orange muted a bit. It's a super composition with very nice balance.

    Honest opinion from me.
    9/10 for the sky
As for the rest. Drop the horizon to 1/3 to feature the sky more, and as steve says remove the overblown areas and tone down the HD.
