    Hello.

Which bit of God's Country are you from?

My bit of Yorkshire was taken by the English in 1978 when I was 4 year old, and renamed as Cleveland.

    You think that's bad.
My bit of Yorkshire was called the East Riding ('cos it was on the East Coast).
Now it's called North Yorkshire? (maybe 'cos it's near the North Sea).
:rolleyespink:Maybe Cleveland was invented to make room in the North to accommodate the East Riding:rolleyespink:

Thank God for Hull. As you approach the outskirts you can still find the old East Riding signs. Someone seems to have dug their heels in and retained that bit of History.

Originally there was the 'North riding', 'East riding' and 'West riding', but oddly I've never heard of a 'South riding'.

My bit was the north riding.

To confuse matters further, North Yorkshire is north, west and south of cleveland.

Did you know, there are actually several different county boundaries. There are the postal, administrative and ceremonial county boundaries. My postal county is cleveland, the administrative county is 'Redcar and Cleveland', and the ceremonial county is Yorkshire. All in the borough of Langaurgh. Pretty obvious really.
