It's the farmers duty to fence to stop he's animals from getting out and into your land and the same for you as well,
A nice thorney hedge, Berberis Thumbergli or a Hawthorn

The lambs are getting through from my neighbours garden, there is a fence but they jump it or squeeze through then can't get back out . And the coos just lean over the waist high fence and snigger as they chomp away I could heighten the fence Jiffy but then I'd lose a lovely view .. I am thinking of a rosa rugosa hedge though and keeping it low but wide - if that makes sense?

REALLY, help, my horse has 2 smallish paddocks. 1 only in the summer and another for winter with a bit of grazing of it in the summer. The winter paddock is a MESS like just about everybody's who has large animals. The majority of the proper grass has gone and Couch has taken it's place. The horse has been in the paddock for nearly 10 years and not a day's illness. Ragwort I absolutely agree with. Horses will avoid it unless they are starving and we pull out any we find and have all but eradicted it after 12 years here. I have never heard of Couch being poisonous before, do you have a link to the information? Not a clue how I could eradicate all the Couch and there wouldn't be much left if I did. Resow with grass seed I hear you say. Pointless with the patter of not so tiny hooves on the ground. Tried resowing sections years ago. All looked lovely until the rain came, ground softened and "Twinkle toes" decided to have a gallop about! We'd need to keep the horse off our fields for about 3 years I reckon to allow the grass to get really established. That's a no as the farmers in the area will charge anything up to £20 a week for grazing and none of the farmers close to where I live will allow horses to graze their fields, why? because they make such a mess!!! Post has come out all wrong and don't know how to fix, sorry Clueless1 only 1st bit is your handy work!
