    Hi @Dips

    Sorry, I'm just back in.

If your lens has the stabilizer on it, then you'll want the:-

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Zoom Lens

As I'm quite sure STM means stabilizer when reading the info.

    Hope this helps.

Does IS not mean image stabiliser tho as its written as image stabiliser on the lens so i presumed thats what the IS meant

    Im so confused :-(

    Sorry I'm wrong.

STM stands for Stepper Motor and is a applied to a new range of Canon lenses which feature a new design of focus motors which, along with a new iris mechanism are designed to eliminate (auditory) noise during video recording.

    Been chatting to Canon.

EF-M lenses are specifically for the EOS M camera.
EF-S lenses are for the majority of our DSLR's.

So this is what you need if you've a 500D DSLR camera:-
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Zoom Lens

Right not to throw a spanner into things but mine does say EOS on it or is that different to EOS M?

Sorry i just want to make sure

This is a lot of effort just to get the lens the camera came with that just lets me point and shoot lol

Sorry to be such a pain

Why don't you give these people a ring and see if it's okay to post it to them Dips.

    No problem @Dips

Because your camera is an EOS 500D, the D stands for digital, meaning it's a DSLR camera.

I did know that i was just being really stupid and not engaging my brain there then but thank you for clarifying

Thank you so much for your help

Im testing my camera everyday with my fisheye lens just incase it starts behaving weird but im hoping that because it fell in a carpeted room and only a thick throw that was on the floor there was no damage done to the actual camera as all of that would of softened the drop.

From what people are saying online it costs more to get fixed (if your not doing it yourself) than buying a new one anyway so it seems pointless to be honest

Camera is still working so yay :-)

Went on amazon yesterday and the lens was £109 but i didn't order it as i hadn't checked if the camera was still ok and i wasn't home

came to order it this morning and its back up to £125

when i first searched for it it was £111

this is all on the same amazon listing and with free delivery and option for prime

Obviously as i know the price has been cheaper i have no interest in paying £125 and would prefer now to pay £109.

Im wondering if the price changes depending on the time of day or day so the £111 price was at 4am on a monday morning and the £109 price was during the day on sunday

All week during the day the price had been £125

has anyone else found this on amazon?

@Dips Are you following the lens price at Amazon by using http://uk.camelcamelcamel.co.uk ? I'm usually waiting for price drops on a few items, and as soon as I get an email on my phone for it at the right price I'll immediately buy it. You can set up different price thresholds for notifications using different email addresses. Some price drops are in response to other suppliers lowering their prices, are you also watching the price at http://www.camerapricebuster.com/ ?

Another place to set up alerts is http://www.hotukdeals.com/ because that can include places other than Amazon and the other retailers monitored by Camerapricebuster, if you search for an item and find it occasionally gets posted at a bargain price, but you've missed it, then it's probably worth setting up an alert, did that for all laptop deals for my daughter a couple of months until I got an app alert for something good and immediately bought it.

Picking up all these alerts on a phone/tablet when out and about (or tucked up in bed during the early hours) makes all the difference between getting them or logging into a PC/laptop when you get home and finding they've finished (saying that for the benefit of any Luddites reading this post, not you Dips). I would have mentioned price monitoring earlier, but I kind of assumed that everybody knows about it these days.

Good news about the camera being OK.

Thank you everyone for your help.

My new lens arrived today and im overjoyed with it. I luckily has a spare UV filter so that is on it now and i ran out and took product photos of the tellises i had pinned in place ready.

I have never wanted to take products photos so much and been so happy about it.

Feel overly releived that its one less problem right now and i cant get back on with my work

So thank you again :-) esp @clum111 thank you
